Vortrag und Gespräch mit Evelina Domnitch und Dmitry Gelfand
Evelina Domnitch (b. 1972, Minsk, Belarus) and Dmitry Gelfand (b. 1974, St. Petersburg, Russia) will discuss the trajectory of their artistic pursuit, which merges physics, chemistry and computer science with uncanny philosophical practices. Having dismissed the use of recording media, the duo’s artworks exist as ever-transforming phenomena offered for observation. Addressing the very thresholds of scientific insight, these endeavors explore the slippery frontier where quantum behavior arises on a macroscopic scale. Over the course of their practice, they have collaborated with numerous scientific research facilities, including the Drittes Physikalisches Institut (Goettingen University, Germany), the Institute of Advanced Sciences and Technologies (Japan), and the Vrije Universiteit (The Netherlands). They are recipients of the Japan Media Arts Excellence Prize (2007), and four Ars Electronica Honorary Mentions (2007, 2009, 2011, 2013).
